Here’s how its been evolving.
I’ve learned that going slow makes faster progress. Who would have thought that slowing down, and taking small steps towards the bigger picture would get you there faster than charging full steam ahead! The time I’ve spent hand walking the horses has really shown me the value of approaching things at walking speed.
In the spirit of keeping things slow while our bodies get fitter and fitter, I plan on adding long lining to the pre-walk arena workout. All my horses have been ridden or driven for a while now and to some it may seem a waste of time to take a well broke horse and go back to long lining, but something in my gut says go for it.
I will be using different bending exercises and in hand workouts I have in various different books. I also hope to incorporate obstacles and poles with the hope of giving them more physiological stimulation as well as encouraging them to use and work their core muscles more effectively.
